Virtual Private Hosting
Virtual Private Hosting or a virtual private server hosting (abbreviated VPS) is a way of dividing a server computer into multiple servers that give the illusion of running independently on its own dedicated machine. Since the computer is still one until physically, the separation is virtual. Hence, then term virtual private server hosting (VPS). Each virtual server can run its own operating system, and each virtual server can be independently rebooted. These division are not new, however, the practice of creating these virtual server barriers has become highly prevalent with the development of virtualization software and technologies. The physical server boots and runs a program that then boots each virtual server within a virtualization environment. Since virtual private server hosting (VPS) uses no direct access to hardware, VPS is booted from a disk image.
Virtual private server hosting can be divided into two separate categories. In the software based virtualization environment, virtual machines require the main node's resources. In a hardware based virtualization, the virtualization mechanism partitions the real hardware resources. Virtual private server hosting, such as Microsoft virtual server, in this kind of environment has far superior security and is commercially useful. But, you may be wondering what purpose such virtual servers play. Virtual private server hosting, in fact, provide a connection between shared web hosting services and dedicated hosting services. VPS customers gain independence from one another in terms of software, but at a reduced cost than implementing physical dedicated servers. This means that a VPS runs its own copy of its operating system with the same integrety as the real operating system, exluding non virtualized features such as firewalls. Moreover, processor time and disk space is limited in virtual private server hosting.
By their very intangible nature, VPSes can be useful for insecure public services. Two virtual servers could run two separate copies of the same website, one of which is live and the other which can be used for testing and updates without relying on physical servers. On the downside, virtual private servers can be used by aggressive search engine marketers and web spammers.
